Folders & Organization

SyVault uses a tree-based folder hierarchy to keep your vault organized. You can nest folders to any depth, share them with team members, and move records freely between them.

Creating and Managing Folders

• Create a folder from the sidebar by clicking + New Folder, or right-click any existing folder and select New Subfolder.
• Rename a folder by right-clicking it and choosing Rename.
• Move a folder by dragging it onto another folder in the sidebar. The entire subtree moves with it.
• Delete a folder to move its contents to Trash. Deleted folders can be restored within 30 days.

Nested Folders

Folders support unlimited nesting. A typical layout might look like:

Shared Folders

On Teams and Business plans, you can share a folder with other vault members. Shared folders inherit permissions: Read-only or Read & Write. Changes sync in real time across all participants.

Encrypted Folder Names

Folder names are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM with the additional authenticated data tag syvault.metadata.v1. The server never sees plaintext folder names.

Drag-and-Drop

Drag any record or group of records onto a folder to move them instantly. Hold Shift to select multiple records before dragging.

Color Coding

Assign a color to any folder for quick visual identification. Right-click a folder and choose Set Color to pick from the palette. Colors are encrypted along with the folder metadata.

Use color coding combined with nesting to build a system that scales -- for example, red for finance, blue for engineering, green for personal.
